Ticonderoga Backpack Program Receives Donation from NLGF
The Northern Lake George Foundation (NLGF) is excited to present the Ticonderoga Backpack Program with a $5,000 donation. This amazing program addresses food insecurity in our community by supplying local families with backpacks filled with nutritious, shelf-stable, and easily prepared foods for children throughout the school year.
NLGF Board members presented the donation to Ticonderoga Backpack Program President, John Bartlett, at the Ticonderoga Kiwanis barbeque.“One of the main focuses of our mission is to enhance community well-being,” said NLGF Executive Director Kathleen Coffman." Sometimes, this requires working on solutions or developing programs to address specific needs in our community. Other times, like this, it’s most effective to support the people already doing incredible work in our community. We’re so excited to donate to the Backpack Program to address food insecurity. It takes a village to raise the next generation, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to work collaboratively to do it.”
The Ticonderoga Kiwanis worked closely with Ticonderoga Central schools for the initial roll-out of the program in 2013. Since then, it’s grown to include a summer program and provides thousands of meals annually. As of this spring, the Backpack Program provides added nutrition to 290 eligible children from seven local area schools: Ticonderoga, Crown Point, Putnam, Schroon Lake, Moriah, Willsboro, and Peru.
The Ticonderoga Backpack Program is a fantastic example of how we can work together to enhance our community’s well-being at the local level. The Northern Lake George Foundation would like to thank everyone who supports this vital program in our community.
